Reading and doing research on how to become a paralegal is is great way to start in the road to becoming a legal secretary. Becoming a paralegal is an honor and requires many hours of schooling a great amounts of studying, and a lot commitment to become a master in this particular field. There are many different ways to become a paralegal and there are many steps a person should take in becoming one. Before deciding to become a paralegal the person should think of why they want to study in the field of law and what kind of law they would like to pursue. Creating a list is always a very efficient way to weigh out the pro's and con's of deciding if studying in this major is good path to follow.

Once a person has decided that they are interested in law and are wanting to become a paralegal they should first think about which path they would like to take. One of the first steps of becoming a paralegal should be to contact a school who offers Paralegal Studies and make an appointment with an adviser. This is an important step because the adviser will be able to tell the person about the correct classes and different programs that they can take in becoming successful. Once meeting with advisers, choosing the right school is very important. Some schools offer different programs and degrees. Before choosing a school the person must decide what route to take when choosing if they want a certificate, two year degree, or four year degree. Most of the time larger law firms in larger cities hire graduates with a higher degree, but of course this all depends on the firm all firms are different.

 When the person has decided how to obtain their certification or degree and what kind of degree they want, they must choose right school that supports their degree. They must choose all the classes that are required for becoming a paralegal. Once all the classes are completed and passed the next step is to start exploring different places to intern.

Interning is very important in becoming a paralegal because it gives the person on the field training and gives the future paralegal experience. Many internships last either a quarter or a semester of a school year and in many cases an internship can turn into a full time job. The school adviser can help setting up interviews with different law firms so the person can explore their options with different intern opportunities. Once the intern is completed the future paralegal can become certified through testing. When testing is complete the person is on there way to having a solid position as a paralegal.

Many students coming out of high school and even people who have been out of school for a while wonder how they can become a paralegal. If a person follows the steps accurately and proficiently then they can become successful in their profession of being a paralegal.
